Coronavirus – COVID-19 Update

Dear Friends,

We interrupt this regularly scheduled Church Update for
THE YOUTH TAKEOVER!

That’s right, the Youth are taking over this coming Sunday and when we take over, we mean it. The Stone Youth are going to demonstrate that there is definitely no “Junior Holy Spirit” as they serve, and as we rejoice in what God is doing in the hearts of our youth.

I am so proud to be a part of the body of Christ that celebrates following God as a family. From children being blessed to honouring and serving our more seasoned members as they mentor and encourage the generations after them. This is a beautiful representation of the Kingdom of God here on earth.

“…so that there may be no division in the body,
but that the members may have the same care for one another.
And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it;
if one member is honoured, all the members rejoice with it.”
1 Corinthians 12:25-26

So whoever you are and whatever season you find yourself in, you have a role in this family.

I pray that Stone Church grows deeper in our love for children being raised up with Christ, deeper in our commitment to support each other and edify young people, singles and families; and deeper in our care and honour for our seniors.

We are the Stone Church Family! We are united in Christ!

Join us live on Sundays at Stone @ Home  at 11 am and during the week for our online events and groups.

Blessings,

Pastor Jackson Rogers

Coronavirus – COVID-19 Update

Dear Friends,

You continue to answer the call.

The Stone Church family is loving people in practical ways near and far.

On Sunday Pastor Murray Cornelius challenged us with the words of Jesus:
“Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
Matthew 7:12

You can catch his powerful conclusion by clicking here.

We invited everyone to respond with a Missions offering. People are still responding, and so far you have given over $6000
for Missions since Sunday. Such generosity!

Beyond our regular missions support, this month we have been able to help two community organizations deeply affected by the current situation with emergency supplies and meals.

Your missional faithfulness allows this to happen. Thank you.

This Sunday I will be preaching a message called “Homegrown: Selfie Control” as we wrap up our series on the Fruit of the Spirit.

Join us live on Sundays at Stone @ Home  at 11 am and during the week for our online events and groups.

Blessings,

Coronavirus – COVID-19 Update

Dear Friends,

This week is a Missions Week at Stone Church.

We appreciate the promise that Jesus is with us always, and one of the reasons why is so that we reach out.

Jesus urges us to:
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20

I love the passion that so many in our Stone Church family share for local outreach and global missions.

For the past two months, we have been working on securing a speaker who would be able to put into perspective what is happening around the world in missions at this critical time. For one reason or another, we could not find the right fit initially.

However, I am so excited that my friend, Murray Cornelius, Executive Director for International Missions of the PAOC, will be joining us live this Sunday sharing a message called “Homegrown: Missional Faithfulness.”

Join us live on Sundays at Stone @ Home  at 11 am and during the week for our online events and groups.

Blessings,

Coronavirus – COVID-19 Update

Dear Friends,

This week we celebrate women.

All women have the power to make a difference in the lives of those around them. Some may raise children in their homes, but all have the opportunity to be spiritual moms. I am grateful for my “church moms.” Without their prayers and encouragement, I would not be your pastor today.

Proverbs 31 is NOT a checklist for ideal womanhood but does yield some observations that women could well appreciate.

When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness.
Proverbs 31:26 – NLT

Mom, you are wise! May the Lord help you give instructions to your kids with kindness, even after weeks of being cooped up with them.

This Sunday Pastor Alanna will be sharing a message for everyone called “Homegrown: Radical Kindness.”

Join us live on Sundays at Stone @ Home  at 11 am and during the week for our online events and groups.

This coming week, why don’t we all call one (or two) of our “church moms” and wish them a Happy Mother’s Day.

Blessings,

Pastor Godfrey

Coronavirus – COVID-19 Update

Dear Friends,

Let’s continue to pray.

Prayer is the key to stay connected with the Vine and growing in the Fruit of the Spirit.

//
Pastor Alvin gives us some keys for Patience:

How do we become more patient?

  • By abiding in Christ,
  • By going deep in His Word,
  • By prayer,
  • By having fellowship with others (even online),
  • By putting patience into practice!

Patience comes from a position of power – power through the Holy Spirit!
Patience is power under control.

The Apostle Paul encourages us:
“May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.”
2 Thessalonians 3:5

During these days of physical isolation, let us make room in our hearts for the Holy Spirit to produce this wonderful virtue in our lives.
//

On Sunday we look forward to sharing Communion together. Please remember to secure some bread and juice.

We also have some exciting Stone Church Family news to share, and a sermon with a special emphasis for youth and young adults.
All are welcome, but let’s encourage young people to connect.

Continue to connect with what’s happening at Stone by visiting events.mystone.ca and groups.mystone.ca.

Need something? Please reach out.

Coronavirus – COVID-19 Update

Dear Friends,

Let’s redeem the time at home.

Our current series “Homegrown” offers encouragement, tools and practical instructions to see the fruit of the Spirit grow in our lives.

Enjoy this excerpt from Pastor Alvin’s teaching on Joy:

  • Joy, like agape “true love”, is not a feeling.
It is something that one possesses from the Holy Spirit.
  • When we yield to the Holy Spirit,
He opens our eyes to God’s grace and fills our hearts with joy.
This happens even in hard times.
  • Consider what Jesus’ brother writes:
“2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
    James 1:2-3
  • The joy of the world is hollow,
but the joy of the Lord is rich and abundant.
  • The world’s happiness will fade with time,
but the Joy of the Lord will last forever.

Amen.

Many of our friends and family continue to look for emotional support and prayer during this time. Call someone today and ask them, “How can I pray for you?”

This week, I reconnected with our City Councillor’s office. For those looking for some support or to offer support, they have created a Ward 11 online resource list. Stone Church has offered some resources that we hope will be included soon. Visit ward11.mystone.ca for the details.

Coronavirus – COVID-19 Update

Dear Friends,

He is risen! He is risen, indeed! We had a great Easter at Stone.
Record numbers attended our online services.
The Stone Church Family worked hard to invite and engage with guests.
A number of people responded to the call to receive Jesus. Praise the Lord!

This week would love to hear from you. To fill out our anonymous assessment and help us determine how our community is doing please visit april2020.mystone.ca.

This survey is only open until Friday at midnight.

It is important for us to stay in touch more than ever. The writer of the book of Hebrews encourages this way:

23 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.
25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
-Hebrews 10:23-25

Now is the time to hold tightly to God’s promises, to motivate one another, and continue to meet together virtually!

Coronavirus – COVID-19 Update

Dear Friends,

The Easter We Need

I was hoping we could meet face to face for Easter services. That is the Easter I envisioned. Complete with an overflowing crowd and two Easter Sunday services. However, it seems that public events will be strongly discouraged for at least another month. Clearly, God has other ideas about the Easter we need. Let’s anticipate something even better for us and all churches.

Our Stone @ Home Livestream viewers and Stone By Phone members are growing. Thanks for inviting your friends, family and neighbours to join you. More than ever, people need to be reminded of the hope contained in the Easter message.

This week is Palm Sunday. Sunday’s sermon entitled “Hail Him! Nail Him!” reveals the startling true nature of freedom. Like us, the people of Jesus’ time got the Easter they needed, not the one they wanted.

We will be observing Communion on Good Friday (April 10th), so plan to have some bread and grape juice (or even some grapes) as you tune in to participate.

As the nicer weather dawns, please continue to practice the physical distancing protocols. Stay safe!

Every week we have a growing number of ways to stay connected.

Coronavirus – COVID-19 Update

Dear Friends,

This Sunday, I’ll be sharing a message with the Stone Church Family called “Not Afraid” addressing what to do in uncertain times.

As disciples of Jesus, our actions and decisions should be different. Why?
We are not of this world! We are not to be conformed to this world’s thinking.
We do not live like those who have no hope!—We are Different!
That is why we are “Not Afraid.”

We hope you can join us for our Stone @ Home Livestream Sunday at 11:00 am.

Connect with us online Live (or On-Demand) from your computer, mobile device or smart TV.
Visit live.mystone.ca or search for “Stone Church Toronto” in your YouTube App.

We will be Livestreaming a portion of our Midweek connection service Wednesday (today) at 7 pm. This will provide a great opportunity to test our Livestream if you have not connected before. We have a moderated chat via YouTube Live to help you connect with others and receive any technical help.

After many meetings and prayerful consideration, we are going to officially close the 45 Davenport Campus to the public as of Thursday, March 19th until at least Saturday, April 4th. The pastoral and administrative staff will remain accessible to you via email and phone. We will be prioritizing care for those most isolated in this season.

Our team is hard at work planning with the Board, the LIFE Club leadership, and other ministries to provide support to our seniors and other vulnerable individuals in our community.
Please call the church office if you need assistance or are aware of someone else who does.

We also have a plan to help parents, guardians, and their children with resources to keep everyone engaged during the long break. Coordinating our Sunday and Easter Weekend Services remains a key focus along with providing clear communication to you.

Please contact your small group or ministry leader to find out specific information about your meetings.

Let’s take every opportunity to connect in meaningful ways.

We continue to pray for you daily. Hope to see you online soon.

Blessings,

Coronavirus – COVID-19 Update

Dear Friends,

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”
Psalm 46:1-3

Our hope is in the Lord. Whenever our world is shaken, it is good to remind ourselves of this unchanging truth.

Our leadership team has been praying for you. We plan to conduct this Sunday’s service but are monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and following recommendations from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Toronto Public Health. On Sunday we will provide further details. Please partner with us to provide a clean and safe environment for everyone.

What we can all do:

  • Wash our hands frequently for at least 20 seconds at a time. Use soap and water when possible.
  • If no soap and water are available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with 60%-95% alcohol.
  • In addition to hand soap available in the bathrooms, Stone Church has a supply of alcohol-based hand sanitizer dispensers available for use.
  • Cover our mouths and noses with our forearms when coughing and sneezing.
  • Greet one another with smiles and methods that minimize close contact (e.g. elbow taps instead of handshakes or hugs).
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Please stay home if you are not feeling well, have a health concern that puts you at higher risk, or have travelled outside of Canada within the last 14-days and join our Stone @ Home Livestream. Let’s love, pray for and support our communities during this season.

Blessings,

Pastor Godfrey
